CHÂTEAU SOUSSANS, BORDEAUX, FRANCE

Chateau Soussans is located in the prestigious village of Margaux , one of the largest appellations of the Médoc. There are no less than 1400 hectares planted in the villages of Arsac, Labarde , Cantenac , Soussans and Maurgaux itself. The vineyards are located in the communes, in the south of the Médoc. With no less than 21 classified Châteaux, perfect quality wines are produced. The most important Châteaux in this area is of course the world famous Premier Grand Cru Château, Chateau Margaux . In the middle lie the five 'Deuxièmes Grands Crus Classés' and the best vineyards of Château Margaux. Between the chateaux shines Château Deyrem-Valentin; the winery that Chateau Soussans falls under. The wine is vinified and bottled at the Chateau. Chateau Deyrem Valentin:if there is a winery where winemaking is so deeply rooted in the winery, it is this winery. This magnificent winery, located between two Grand Cru Classé chateaux, dates back to 1730. Just like his great-grandfather, his grandfather and his father, winemaker Jean Sorge is responsible for the day-to-day running of the estate. Together with his two daughters,Sylvie and Christelle,he continues the rituals and traditions of the family estate, to continue the total harmony of the vines, the terroir, the wine cellars. With tradition in mind, but innovation on the way, he tries to make Margaux and its riches in the world of Bordeaux wines, even more popular .

GOOD GROWTH REQUIRES PRUNING

Winemaker Jean Sorge states that if you want to make perfect wines, you have to be very precise with the vines, you have to check the growth of the grapes regularly and you have to provide regular care to the vines. Especially in the winter, extra care is very necessary to preserve the vines. In his wine estate, he therefore swears by the D ubbele Guyot method; Guyot pruning ensures a high yield and can be applied to almost all grape varieties . Guyot pruning is often used in professional winegrowing. The quality of the grapes is maximised because the optimal growth points are used. These are close to the trunk. There are two ways of Guyot growth, single and double. Jean Sorge uses the double Guyot, in which he works with two grafted branches. Of course, the terroir is closely linked to this. The soil in Margaux consists mainly of gravel hills , which are typical of the Médoc. These provide perfect drainage of water and are loose and airy. Due to their infertile nature, the gravel hills force the vines to penetrate their roots deep into the ground in search of nutrients. The gravel hills rest on limestone plateaus. The Margaux appellation is located on a gravel island. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape in particular grows particularly well here and produces refined light wines with a fragrant aroma and a soft tannin structure.
