DOMAINE ROUVRE SAINT LEGER; CREATED OUT OF LOVE FOR TERROIR

The Rouvre Saint Leger wine estate was born from a shared ambition that Adrien Borrelly and Didier Dumont shared; to search for the typicity of the terroir. To achieve this goal, the gentlemen bought part of the Borrelly family domain, which comprises a total of 60 hectares. After strict selection on terroir type, slope, position in relation to the sun and possibilities for viticulture, Adrien and Didier bought a piece of land of 3 hectares; their own domain where they were given the opportunity to do detailed and specific research into all phases of viticulture; a dream come true.

PARTNERS WITH PASSION

Adrien Borrelly, only 26 years old, comes from a winemaking family based in Laudun; Domaine de la Rouveyolle. The winery has existed since 1683, now the 12th generation is working there. After his studies Oenology Adrien decided to start his research wish; research into grape varieties from the Rhône & their typicity . In doing so he also contributed to increasing the knowledge and science of his family at Domaine de la Rouveyolle. Partner in 'crime', Didier Dumont (54 years old), living in Avignon but originally Italian, settled at Farm Saint Leger in Laudun , with the goal in mind to give a 16th century farm back its winemaking purpose. To do this, the building first had to be completely renovated and refurbished. Not only the building itself, but also the surrounding vineyards that had not been in use since 1980. Before he ended up here, he spent more than 15 years in South America, where he developed his knowledge and love for New World wines . He was convinced that French wines had to undergo a change in typicity if they wanted to be able to compete with the rest of the world. For that reason and with the same desire to delve into terroir, soil and grape development , Didier and Adrien crossed each other's paths. Not only their passion for wine, but also their research into the harmony between (family) traditions and the emerging international wine market, and their own experiences with both, led them in 2007 to purchase and establish Domaine Rouvre Saint Leger , as the new largest winery in Côtes du Rhône Villages - Laudun.
To complete the team, Adrien and Didier have asked renowned oenologist Phillip Cambie to join them. His oenological knowledge and consultations are very welcome to the team.

THE LOST CORNER

The meeting of Adrien and Didier naturally also resulted in the joint naming of their new wine estate: a contraction of (family) Rouveyolle and the farm Saint Leger resulted in Domaine Rouvre Saint Leger. Incidentally, 'Rouvre' also means 'reopen' in French. Residents of Laudun sometimes refer to 'le coin perdú' , literally (the lost corner), in the sense that no one would have thought that such a beautiful wine house and estate would be established on the edge of the village, just behind the centuries-old Château Maurice.

2008; THE YEAR OF BIRTH

2008 was the first real vintage for Domaine Rouvre Saint Leger; In 2008 Adrien and Didier released their first line of Côtes du Rhône Village Blanc and Rouge. Phillippe Cambie judges the quality of both as "absolutely remarkable" .

Short maturation in oak barrels.
Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge 2013 - 60& Grenache, 40% Syrah
Partial wood maturation in oak barrels for a period of 11 months.

Both the Côtes du Rhône Blanc and Rouge are a reflection of the talent, dynamism, ultimate knowledge and far-reaching passion of both winemakers .
