DOMAINE SAINT-PHILIPPE: ROSÉ FROM 'NEW PROVENCE'

Domaine Saint-Philippe is located north of Montpellier . The company is owned by the Bautou family . The vineyard property is divided over four municipalities. During the harvest, a pre-selection takes place per plot. Each grape variety is fermented and matured separately. The final wine is composed from the various wines. The winegrowers from the Languedoc have, compared to other regions, more freedom in the choice of grape varieties. For example, Domaine Saint-Philippe also works with Bordeaux varieties , including Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This has the disadvantage that the Languedoc region is less recognizable as a 'brand name' compared to, for example, Champagne or Burgundy. It makes the area a bit of a grab bag for the enthusiast on a quest, in a positive sense. The wine estate of Saint-Philippe is located in Coteaux du Languedoc; which is part of one of the appellations of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. This area comprises a total of almost 21,000 hectares of wine-growing area. Coteaux du Languedoc is one of the best-known ACs in the region. This AC extends over the area north of Montpellier to Narbonne, which is situated further west . Within the Coteaux du Languedoc, some municipalities are allowed to put their own appellation on the label in addition to the general mention of Coteaux du Languedoc. Great wines come from there. The wines are rich and concentrated, with herbs and soft tannins.
