 Slovenia is situated between Italy, Austria, Hungary, Croatia and the Adriatic Sea. It is a country with very diverse rich landscapes, lots of sunshine and a hardworking and friendly population.
The climate of Slovenia is very diverse and interesting , because the country is influenced by the Alps, the Mediterranean Sea and the Pannonian Basin, where different zones overlap and influence each other. Many times a year a strong, cold north-easterly wind, the B ora , blows over the country.

Slovenia was able to profile itself to a limited extent decades ago, but in recent years it has developed at a great speed. The country has always been oriented towards the West, a process that has increased since independence.

The country's fourteen wine-growing areas are divided into three regions:

• Primorska is located in the far west on the border with Italy, whose wine-growing areas Collio and the Karst landscape continue largely on Slovenian territory. The soil consists largely of limestone and terra rossa (red earth).
• Podravje (on the Drau) is the largest wine region , stretching from Austrian Styria to Croatia and is also called Slovenian Styria. The vineyards in the seven wine-growing regions are often located on steep slopes with calcareous and/or stony soil.
• The last, less known region is Posavje (on the Sava). The three wine regions stretch in the southeast near the Croatian border. Here the Cvicek is famous, a red wine consisting of a blend of indigenous grape varieties.

The winegrowing area largely consists of white grape varieties for about 75 percent . Varieties such as Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Furmint, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Malvazija, Pinot gris, Traminer, and Rebula are widely grown here. The most widely planted red varieties are Merlot, Blaufrãnkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Refošk.
