Galatheo Winery produces its two wines in different regions in Italy. The white wine, made from 100% Pinot Grigio is produced in the heart of Veneto, the red wine, made entirely from the Primitivo grape , is produced in Apulia, better known as Puglia (the heel of the boot). Starting with the northern region of Veneto, located on the northeast coast of Italy, at the foot of the Dolomites. Veneto is often associated with Venice , place of love and boats, but very high quality wines are also produced. Veneto is one of the largest wine regions in Italy . The most famous wine from the Veneto region is the Valpolicella . The original area - the Classico zone - is located around the city of Verona of the same name. Inland and east of Venice we come to the area where the Soave and the Pinot Grigio come from. Here too, the best examples come from the classico zone . The Pinot Grigio that Galatheo produces here is very attractive in terms of price-quality. The wine has a fresh character, with a nice spiciness that makes this wine a juicy, expressive white wine. Aromas of lime, peach and citrus come forward nicely and give the wine a lively character.
In the 'heel' of southern Italy lies the wine region of Puglia. Apart from the fact that Puglia is a beautiful part of Italy, the area is also experiencing a flourishing culture in the field of wine growing . Thanks to investments in knowledge and equipment, promising wines are now being produced. For the Greeks, Puglia was already the ideal wine region. Together with Sicily, it is now the largest wine producer , especially of red wines. The conditions here are so favourable that yields of 400 hectolitres of wine per hectare are easily achievable. Even with high yields, the indigenous grape varieties of Puglia produce particularly powerful wines, especially Negroamaro and Primitivo . One of the most interesting and promising grape varieties is the Primitivo. This variety, brought to the United States by Italian emigrants, has become the most important grape variety in California, where it is better known as Zinfandel. The Primitivo from Galatheo from the Salento sub-region is a smooth, sun-drenched red wine with a bouquet of cherries and hints of ripe plums and raisins.
